ThingleToodle session and eligibility:

ThingleToodle (TT) is Starting Out Safely’s road safety mascot, a well-known and much loved part of Victoria’s road safety education program.

Together Professor E. Speriment and ThingleToodle visit funded kindergartens across Victoria to share with the children some key road safety education concepts including;

  • holding hands with an adult before crossing the road
  • Stop! Look! Listen! Think! before crossing the road
  • the importance of using child car seats or booster seats correctly

The ThingleToodle education sessions are just one of many opportunities to include road safety education in the early learning curriculum.

ThingleToodle sessions:

If you have taken part in the Starting out Safely professional development (PD) funded by TAC within the past three years and have a road safety education and a safe transportation policy, and you did not get a visit in 2024, you qualify to request the complimentary ThingleToodle education session.

We have 500 sessions available each year across the state. Due to this limit, we may not always arrange a visit in the same year as your PD. Your PD accreditation lasts for three years. If we don’t schedule a visit in your PD year, you move to the top of the priority list for the following year. To ensure this, we need your current timetable and policy information in term 4 or at the start of term 1 for the next year. This is important as your timetables change annually. If you change your teaching location or service, please notify us.

Timetable Form:
Each year, we will ask you to submit the following form: https://childroadsafety.org.au/thingle-toodle/timetable-form/ so that we can add your service to our ThingleToodle priority request database.

When sending us this information, please specify in your email whether your policy is based on the TAC/ELAA Best Practice Safe Transportation and Road Safety Education Policy

For your ThingleToodle visit information, we will request the following timetable details on the form:

  • Group name days and times for each funded 4-year-old funded kindergarten group. (This also includes combined 3/4 year old kindergarten programs)
  • Let us know if you operate on a rotational model and provide the above information. Additionally, include the best days to cover all children. For instance, if you have a three-group rotation, include your best two days; for a four-group or more rotation, include the best three days to cover all children.
  • If your facility is an integrated long day care, please inform us of your service hours. Note that scheduling may occur at 11:15 am and 1:15 pm, so account for this in your information.

Kindly note that sessions are allocated through email, specifying the date and time, and we do not take bookings. Send the required details to rse@elaa.org.au
