This set of 12 road signs have been designed to complement the Starting Out Safely Resources. Their purpose is to provide children with an opportunity to develop and extend their understanding of road signs and the use of road signs throughout Victoria and urban, regional, and rural locations. The signs are based on the Australian Standards (AS 1743) and are signs that children see on roads throughout their communities.
Made of corflute, which is light weight and weather resistant, the signs come in a storage bag that can be easily hug on a hook in the shed or storage room allowing for easy, convenient, accessible storage.
Containing a mixture of text, numbers and pictures the road signs are designed for use with children with diverse abilities and culture.
They can be used in a combination of child-led and adult-led play-based learning along with active teacher led learning (VEYLDF, 2016) providing educators an opportunity to stimulate new interest and learning for children.
The signs are wonderfully versatile being able to be mounted on easels, in displays, used as posters, creating stories, mounted on fences and other outdoor areas or stimulus for literacy work and/or carried and used by children in variety of ways during play.
